Who I Am
Picture this: a world where the boundaries of aerospace engineering and data science blur, where the lessons from the vastness of space apply to the intricate world of data. This is where my mind wanders, constantly drawing parallels, always searching for the underlying patterns that connect seemingly different worlds.
Who am I?
That's a story of constant exploration. I'm Roderik, and my journey began in Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. It was about more than just space and technology; it was a lesson in creative problem-solving and innovative thinking, skills that I’ve carried with me ever since.
Why the switch to data science?
Moving from engineering to data science, especially at Booking.com, was like opening a new door in the same house. Data tells its own unique stories, influencing decisions, shaping strategies. In leading teams and mentoring individuals, I’ve realized that the joy comes from discovering new insights, whether it’s about space or about data.
Leadership, mentoring, experimenting – how do they all fit?
I often reflect on this. In every role, from developer to senior leader, my approach has been about being a part of the team. The real excitement is in working together to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and learning.
What motivates me now?
It's a deep-rooted curiosity, a drive to share knowledge, and a desire to empower others. Whether it’s helping a startup navigate their business plan or guiding an individual through their tech career, it's about forging meaningful connections and enjoying the journey that life brings.
